The current situation means that we’re all spending a lot more time indoors, and will be for at least a little while to come! One of the biggest changes we’re all facing is the loss of our regular routines, with days feeling like they’re blending into each other, and our favourite relaxation spots (yoga studio, beauty salon, pub down the road) all off-limits. With everything happening around us, stress levels are skyrocketing on a global scale, we may be doing a bit more comfort-eating and a lot less exercise. Our skin displays some of the first visual signs of these stressors and lifestyle changes on the body, with breakouts, redness, and dark, puffy circles under our eyes from messed-up sleep schedules.
There are a few important ways to relieve these symptoms of the upheaval we’re all going through, and it starts with establishing a good routine of self-care.
First, it’s super important to make sure we’re getting enough sleep. While it might be tempting to stay up watching Netflix until 4am, if you’ve got to clock into a Zoom meeting at 9am, you need to make sure you’re giving your body enough rest and recovery time in between. This might sound like a basic first step, but a lack of sleep can increase cortisol levels causing inflammation and breakouts.
